What is not allowed is accessing private accounts, obtaining phone or bank records by pretext, or placing a tracker on their car.

What a Licensed PI Will Not Do, Even When You Ask
Tennessee PIs have no police powers and must follow the same laws as everyone else. We will not log into someone's accounts, guess passwords, read their texts, obtain phone records through pretexting or place a GPS tracker on a car the person owns. Tennessee law makes tracking another person's vehicle without the owner's consent a crime, and evidence gathered that way can hurt you rather than help.
Sealed records, medical information and private financial data are also off limits without legal authority. If someone offers you those things, treat it as a red flag about them.

Not from us. A standard dating check relies on public records and online research and does not involve contacting the person, their family or their workplace. As long as you keep the inquiry to yourself, there is no step in the process that alerts them.
Can you tell me if my boyfriend or girlfriend is still married?
Often, yes. Marriage and divorce filings are public records kept at the county level in Tennessee, and similar records exist in other states. Separation is harder to confirm because it is usually not recorded anywhere, so we report what the records show and explain what they cannot.
Can I find out if someone I met online has a criminal record?
Public criminal court records can be searched in the counties and states tied to the person. The accuracy depends on having a correct full name and identifiers such as age or date of birth. Expunged and sealed records are not available and should not be offered by anyone.
What if I only have a first name and a phone number?

Is a dating check covered by the FCRA?
